Book Reviews!

Mia and I have been in a reading frenzy this last week Mia has just finished Hollywood Car Wash, and I have, in a marathon session, finished A Model Summer,The Second Assistant and I'm almost finished The First Assistant, and just about to start Hollywood Car Wash.

Of course, this is all totally fabulous chick lit, 100% enjoyable.

A Model Summer, by Paulina Porizkova was an engrossing and easy read. It was a little bit deeper than your average chick lit book, but no less entertaining. Clearly it was based heavily on her own life and breakthrough into the world of modeling. The only thing that was a bit disappointing was the ending, which was sort of abrupt and left you hanging. I hope Porizkova left it like that so she can write a sequel, because I'd definitely read it.

The Second Assistant, by Clare Naylor and Mimi Hare. I just loved this book. Not only is it totally hilarious, it's a fantastic looked inside the inner workings of a real Hollywood Agency. It's light reading, but totally engrossing. I read it in two days! Highly recommended for summer reading.

The First Assistant: A Continuing Tale from Behind the Hollywood Curtain, by Clare Naylor and Mimi Hare. This is the sequel to The Second Assistant, and although it is still entertaining, it doesn't quite measure up to the first one and the story is a bit all over the place. There are a lot of thinly veiled references to A list celebs that you will recognize instantly, and it's fun to read just for the closure you'll get for the romantic sub-plot.

All in all, three great summer reads!!

Book Update!

On Monday, we told you about a new book that is creating quite a bit of buzz due to it's similarities to Katie Holmes' life. Hollywood Car Wash by new author Lori Culwell is 'based on real stories' and focuses on a girl that gets her start on a tv series then gets into a contractual relationship with a big star.
TMZ got the following comment from Culwell,
"I can't discuss any relationship with Katie Holmes, but I am sorry that she's upset about the book."
Her lawyer of course told her to keep her trap shut as to whether or not she even knows Katie Holmes but she did say "the main character is based on a person that is never, ever going to talk to me again."
Meanwhile, Holmes' rep denied that Katie has even heard of the book, let alone read it. It may become a movie though, according to Culwell, production companies are reading it now.
"maybe Katie Holmes would like to play the main character."
Oh snap!!

Katie Holmes' Life Makes For a Good Book!

According to 'a friend of Katie Holmes', Katie is in a snit about a book just released in which the main character seems to be quite similar to her. Lori Culwell's new novel, Hollywood Car Wash, is a satire about the industry and says the so called 'friend',
"Someone gave her a copy last weekend, and she's been reading it non-stop ever since. She's already having problems with Tom, and now she feels like her private life has been exposed. She's really upset."

So what's the story all about? Apparently, the book focuses on a young actress who made her mark on a tv show. She is forced to lose weight, take drugs and gets into a contracted relationship! Culwell has denied that the character is based on Holmes, but check out what she does say on her MySpace page:

"A few years ago, I moved back to Los Angeles from New York. I got back in touch with some of my friends from high school (some of whom, yes, are in the industry). Two or so years ago, I decided that some of the stories I heard here in LA were too absurd not to share, and so I took those stories (ALL of which are true), and put them in a novel. Because seriously, there is some crazy and unbelievable crap that goes on out here.It is a fact that I know some celebrities, and some people who know some celebrities. So yes, I know some things. And no, I can't tell you who-- though if you read my novel you can find out what."
Call me a sucker, but I am so buying this book!
